Welcome to the official site of
OMT-Greece
Orthopaedic Manipulative Therapists of Greece
the Scientific Manual Therapy Group
of the Panhellenic Physiotherapists' Association
The OMT-Greece was founded in 2007 after invitation, and now under the aegis, of the Executive of the National Physiotherapists’ Association, the Panhellenic Physiotherapists’ Association (PPA). OMT-Greece was founded by physiotherapists, members of the PPA, a number of who were also members of the Hellenic Manipulative Physiotherapy Association (HMPA) representing Greece in the International Federation of Orthopaedic Manipulative Therapists (IFOMT) since 2005.
Its operation is governed by the statute and internal regulations of the PPA, as well as by the rules, provisions and statute of IFOMT. IFOMT was founded in 1974 as a sub-group of the World Confederation of Physical Therapy (WCPT).
The principles of the Scientific Manual Therapy Group are the Educational and Clinical Standards set by IFOMT in their Standards Document, through which it supports and enhances the necessity of Evidence Based Practice.
Members of OMT-Greece are qualified physiotherapists specialized in Manual Therapy who are also members of the PPA and have attained their degree through an internationally certified educational process from an international body which, in turn, is recognized by and represented in IFOMT.
The education provided by the Scientific Manual Therapy Group involves:
in the field of physiotherapeutic assessment:
·differential diagnosis of neuromusculoskeletal dysfunctions
·classification and staging of dysfunctions
·identification of incidents of chronic pain
·set-up of a suitable therapeutic team for their management
in the therapeutic field:
·passive mobilization techniques of the peripheral joints and the spine
·post isometric relaxation techniques, muscle energy techniques, manipulation (High Velocity Low Amplitude Thrusts) of the peripheral joints and the spine
·techniques involving the neural tissue along with the increase or decrease of the strain on it, combined to techniques both of the joints and of the soft tissues
·in the field of specialized therapeutic exercises aiming to improve neuromuscular control (motor control) and the stability of peripheral joints as well as those of the spine, but also aiming to the rehabilitation of muscular imbalance by improving strength and muscular elasticity
·multidimensional approach for the management of chronic pain.
Notice that no single approach is adopted but a fair selection of the most reliable techniques and various Manual Therapy systems has been made, based on unbiased, state of the art research (Evidence Based Clinical Practice).
